Blessed and Stressed

So Grace wanted to know when Judd was getting a trach. When I told her he didn't need one, she asked about Caroline. Then when I said she didn't need one either her list of names went on and on and on. I started by explaining why some people wear glasses and some don't but she was looking for a connection. One we don't have - another kid she knows with a trach. Sometimes different is awesome and sometimes it's not. She is frustrated and I really don't blame her. When she has a meltdown, and those are frequent, I secretly wish I could join in! I am sure I would regret it, so I don't, but it just sounds liberating. Grace is a blessed little girl in so many areas of life but she is also a stressed little girl in the areas of life most of us take for granted. We, as a family, have been incredibly blessed and provided for in a million ways. We have been the recipient of the most gracious and generous gifts and it far outweighs the stresses of our life but it is still sad to watch your children hurt. I know Grace is amazingly resilient but she is also unpredictably frustrated and irritated and she is looking for someone to blame! Judd and Caroline adore her but they are paying a high price for having Grace as a sister these days. We keep reminding her that she has a leadership role. Little eyes are watching and learning from her but she prefers to submit to her emotions. And, I suppose I do that a lot too! I pray that we can all celebrate the blessings and minimize the stresses as we put one foot in front of the other and go about our days!

D and Bridg...None of us can imagine exactly what you are going through;but, we feel your worries and feelings deeply. I pray that God will give you both strength and encouraging words for Grace.

Gracie...Aunt Sheri wants you to try really hard to be a big girl. Judd and Caroline need you to teach them how to act and play nicely. They will learn by watching you!...just like you watch Hanna Montana!!

Bridget and Darrell,

Papa Dave loves and admires the two of you more than words can express. I have observed that everyone and every family has their own unique set of challenges and blessings. They are generally spread through out our lives, but often come in bunches like grapes. I often think the Lord loads us with challenges so as to arrive at just the right time to show his power.

From the side lines, I can see that you are both much better, stronger and more stable people due to the challenges of Grace. She has certainly brought out the best in each of you. She has also helped you to be exemplary parents for Judd and Caroline.

I know these words do not console the pain of the moment, but I hope they help from the view of the mirror. Life is sometimes just pure perserverence. You are both very wonderful people.

Love,

Papa Dave

My favorite family ever,
I don't pretend to know the depth of challenge...but do know the challenge/grief/love combo - I can relate. Miss Grace - who knew you'd be deemed so early as a superstar...most people it takes awhile! :) But no wonder - look at your beautiful mommy. Love the authenticity - you - Bridge & fam - exempt how we should all live. In my thoughts and prayers...always. Amber

I wonder who the prettiest and smartest girl with a trach is? Wait, I know who it is........it's Gracie. Gracie, sometimes we have to do something or wear something we don't like, but it's only for a little while. That's what makes us strong is when we can say "I'll do whatever it takes to make me better." And, that's exactly what you're doing. Go Gracie!!! When you meet someone else that has a trach you will be able to tell them you had one, too, and they will instantly bond with you. Just think, you're the leader and can show others how to wear it and smile at the same time.

Love you,
Gran-Bubbie

Grace First: I know right now things are not how you wish they were, but you are so brave and I pray you will just ask God to help you in the times when you get really sad and frustrated. Someday soon, you will be past this point with the trach and then you will begin to forget how it sometimes made you feel angry or sad or just understanding why? You don't need to know who I am (I am a long time friend of your Mommy's), but know that I care for you very much and that I and my family love you and pray for you. You are a blessing! Be brave, be strong, and don't be afraid to just ask you Mommy or Daddy or Caroline or Jud for a big hug sometimes, because those will always make you feel better.

Bridget & Darrell - Prayers just continue that God will sustain you each day and give you whatever strength, wisdom or comfort you need for the moment. Lots of Love, Maureen

Good Morning Gracie!!
I hope today is a GOOD day! Some days will not be and that is OK! I am sure Hannah Montana has good days and days that are not so good...we all do! You are so special and never are you alone! Our awesome BIG GOD is right by your side! When you get frustrated, you can go color (any way you want!) a picture and maybe that will help you! I know a lot of children that do that and it does help. Just remember YOU are loved by so many!!
We are so proud of you!!
Love,
Ms. Ali

I don't have any great and eloquent words to express to you guys through these trying and frustrating times other than for you to know that we're praying that God meets you wherever you are on the road with Him. And that when you're feeling tired, a bit weary, and frustrated that He will give you strength, much grace, and JOYS around EVERY single corner and turn. What a bright spot to see you Bridget and your kiddos at LBS on Tuesday! :)

Grace--

I cannot tell you how excited Grant is about coming to ride bikes with you tomorrow! He was so excited to see you at church on Tuesday. This morning he woke up and asked if this was the day that he got to go ride bikes with Grace. He was bummed that he had to wait a whole extra day!

Ok...so are we on for tomorrow around 3:30ish? Bridget--can I bring you a dinner as well?? I am going to plan on it unless I hear from you otherwise.

Take Care,
Heather, Grant and Ben

Hi Grace,
I woke up early thinking about you
this morning.
After Bible Study Class yesterday, went out to lunch with a couple of my
friends. They were asking about you.
Hope you are feeling better. Study hard and stay busy, that way time will pass much quicker. Give Judd & Caroline,Mom & Daddy a big hug from me.
Love You!
Aunt Darlene
